Congratulations! You now have a smart second grader!

A gigantic "thank you" to Sadie for this year's phenomenal yearbook!

Keep on reading!!!

Hope you dig into some summer reading fun!!! Also, take advantage of the reading activities at Taos Public Library. And if that still leaves you craving more, the good news is that you are able to access both the Istation reading and math programs through the summer using your child's logon information.

Reading Skills Program

UNM is also offering live online summer reading classes for students going into second grade!  For assistance or to enroll by phone call 1-800-903-2172
Questions arents of entering 2nd graders often ask us t:
  • Is the summer reading skills program right for my child?
All entering 2nd graders benefit from improving their reading skills over the summer. During live online classes, the teacher provides support and guidance for each student. Interactive skills lessons are tailored to each child’s skill level and needs. Every student makes progress during the program.
  • What happens during live online classes?
Each live online class lasts for 75 minutes. These weekly classes are led by trained, enthusiastic teachers. Students can see, hear, and interact with each other and the teacher in real time. Every class includes comprehension-building book discussions, fluency training, and fun games and activities to build phonics skills. Classes are engaging, positive, and productive for students.
  • What will my child do between classes?
Between classes, your child will complete independent reading assignments and interactive online lessons at the correct reading level. Lessons cover skills like phonics and word attack, fluency, and comprehension. The lessons are easy for students to follow and complete on their own.
  • What is the Institute of Reading Development?

We offer the Summer Reading Skills Program to families in partnership with the Institute of Reading Development, a nationwide leader in reading skills instruction. Since 1970, the Institute has partnered with colleges and universities to teach valuable reading skills to more than two million students across the United States. The Institute’s inspired instruction encourages a lifelong love of reading in every student. You can learn more about the Institute of Reading Development here.

If you have any questions about how this program will work for Natalia, give us a call or send us an email. We're always delighted to talk with parents about their child's reading development and how we can help: 1-800-903-2172.

Have a fun summer!
See you in August!
