What a wonderful week it was to be back in school with the first graders!
We undertook a project of a lifetime: building a real igloo! Twice! And we succeeded! Twice! The children were unstoppable! What a precious experience for all first graders to work super hard together! What a magical moment to be held inside that glowing space of snow! And that's not all! What a gold mine this adventure was to fuel our studies of climates, habitats and biomes around the world, starting with Balto,'s life-or-death mission that inspired the annual Iditarod! Homework:
We are working on silent -e. Ask your child what they know about "mommy -e" and listen to their fantastic impersonation!
Please practice reading every passage that comes home with your child.
In math we are working on fact families. Please have your child complete work through page 55 in their math workbook.
Testing:
Istation reading testing is happening in the next two weeks
Slippers and snacks please!
SLIPPERS: Please send house shoes or slippers with your child to keep in their cubby. It's going to be super muddy and wet once the snow melts. Boots will be kept in the hallway. Every child needs to have slippers and socks to wear in the classroom. Thank you!
SNACKS: We are out of crackers and apple sauce that I have been buying when a child does not bring a snack to school. There is a snack at 9:30am and also at 1:45pm. Please help out by bringing in extra boxes of crackers to share if you can. When they are hungry, the children will much appreciate it!

Parent-teacher conferences are on February 1.
Valentine's coming up! We will be having a class Valentine's party on February 14th.
There are 19 children in the class.
I only have one guideline about sending Valentines: absolutely no candy please. Thank you for your support!
We will be making a Valentine's smoothie. I will be asking each child to bring one specific ingredient, tableware, or tool (such as a blender) ahead of time.
Great news! We have a working interactive whiteboard. What fun to look at giant snowflakes photographed by Snowflake Bentley!
