STUDENT FOLDERS went home on Thursday. Please check your child's backpack. Student work that was done at school is to be taken out of the folder to stay home.
Please send Fix-it sheets back on Thursday with your initials on the bottom.
SPELLING QUIZ words will be the same this week. I had a few of you ask about the quiz. The max score is 12 points (1 point for student's name spelled correctly using only one uppercase letter, 1 point for correct date, plus 10 spelling words). For the beginning of the year a score of 8 points hits the proficiency mark.
NONSENSE WORDS
This bit is for those of you who appreciate a bit of nerdy first grade linguistics. :) Nonsense words do serve a purpose! I know, it's weird, but nonsense words help teachers gauge students' ability to encode sounds and are also aid in decoding more complex words. (E.g. Knowing "lin" will help a kid with words such as "sling," "linen," "linoleum" and even "multilingual" down the road.) Besides, they are great for playing crosswords and scrabble!!
LUNCHES
If you are able to prepay, please do! Otherwise please bring exact payment and DEPOSIT IT IN MANILA ENVELOPE in the first grade room by 8:15. Only send payment in backpack if you are unable to walk your child in.
REQUESTS:
Please come in to take a look at the "no-name" supplies (we have a few headphones and binders)
Please make sure that your child has a labeled leak-proof water bottle every day.
If your child is missing any supplies (especially extra clothing), please bring those in ASAP.
