Spelling quiz update:
The children have shown tremendous growth with their spelling! Great job, everyone!

Here is the list of words for this coming week: wig, win, wag, fit, lip, lap, tin, rat, it, have

Beginning in October on there will be two changes in the spelling quiz.

1. One sentence will be added to the list of spelling words. The sentence will be scored as follows: 1 point for uppercase beginning, 1 point for ending punctuation mark, 1 point for finger spaces, and 1 point for correct spelling.

2. The words will NOT be dictated in the order they appear on the spelling sheet. You might want to start mixing them up when you practice.

Also, please help your child get into the habit of crossing off mistakes as opposed to erasing. Erasing takes a loooong time in first grade and gets pretty messy. Encourage your child to cross off like a nobel laureate!

Istation

Istation is the reading software each public school is mandated to use for reading instruction and assessment in first grade.

There is a document going home this Thursday along with the homework packet with information on how to install and access Istation on your home device.

Tutoring is on Tuesdays (3:30-4:15) and Wednesdays (3:30-4:00)

Club update and CORRECTION! Finger-knitting club will be in session on WEDNESDAYS (3:30-4:15) and NOT on Thursdays!

Scholastic book orders

This year we will are logging and counting all the books we read. Please send in book logs on Thursdays as they get completed. Students may read books from our class library, from the public library and home library online, audio, or in a regular book format. In addition, families may purchase books from Scholastic Book Club. I find that Scholastic books are of high interest to kids and reasonably priced. The books at Scholastic make awesome gifts as well! If you plan to purchase books as gifts, please let me know so I can make alternative arrangements for sending those orders home without spoiling the surprise for your child. Also, with each purchase a family makes, our class earns bonus points which we use to purchase books for our class library. Overall, it is a win-win deal for everyone.

When a book order form goes home with your child, and you wish to purchase a book, this is what you will need to do.

September 14 (Monday):

The TISA Dragon Jog-a-Thon will be next Monday, September 24th.  Don't forget to use your pledge sheet to ask your family & friends for donations to help our awesome school! It is important that you wear comfortable clothing & shoes that you can walk, jog, & run in.  We will be setting up an oval track to run around, and we will write down how many laps you run after 20 minutes. All students & classes will be participating in this fun event. Here's the exciting part: the CLASS that runs the most laps, will win a classroom party of your choice! Also, the TOP 5 runners of the whole school will each win a $20 gift card to Gutters Bowling Alley! Your families are also welcome to join us and do laps with you! (TISA PTA)

TISA Dragon Spirit Day will be EVERY THURSDAY, starting THIS Thursday! Wear our school colors, orange & green, or a TISA t-shirt! Every now and then, TISA PTO will pop in with ZIGGY DOLLARS to search for a lucky TISA student that is showing their school pride & wearing our colors.  If you would like to order our brand new TISA T-shirt, there is only 1 week left to place your order. (PTA)

Finally, please take a look at what your child is missing at school. The list of missing items went home today. Items that are needed are circled. Please send them in as soon as possible, or let me know that the item/s are not available.
(List: final report card from school attended last year, extra clothing, headphones, water bottle, watercolor pencils, 10am snack -- snacks are not provided by TISA.)
