HOOT 14

February has been most delightfully eventful! We had a fun Valentine's day (all slurped on a smoothie with weird ingredients such as avocado and beet, thanks to your help!), a magical concert of Middle Eastern music (lucky kiddos got to touch a real oud instrument), a jaw-dropping belly dance presentation by Miss Julia (spinning a scimitar on her head), and an inspiring field trip to the Harwood Museum (sculpting with soft air-drying clay). AND ... we have had other, less welcome visitors: germs, bacteria and viruses!!! Thank you for being extra vigilant about your child's health and keeping her/him home if they are not well.

Please help us with the following requests:

The mud is upon us! Literally. On the rugs, in the cubbies, and on the walls. Please send a pair of house shoes (sneakers, slippers, sandals most footwear will do except for high heels : ) with your child on Monday.

Every child needs to have a water bottle at school. It need not be fancy. A plastic bottle with a top that stays on will do. We've had bad luck with cups and spills. Please send your child with a labeled water bottle on Monday.

Homework (due Thursday Feb. 28):
1 hour of Istation or Lexia
Math Home Link book: p. 75 - 85
Homework packet

Upcoming events
February 22, TONIGHT: Bowling Night at Gutters. Schedule change alert! Due to circumstances beyond TISA's control, the Gutters event tonight is from 7-10pm, not 6-9pm. Please spread the word.It should be a great event! Hope to see everyone there!

February 28, 2:30 pm: Students of the month celebration. In February we are celebrating Michael Greeley and Natalia Concha for their kindness, participation and steady striving to learn. Congratulations!

March 6 (Wednesday) 8:30 - noon: Annual TISA Read-a-thon and pyjama day
We are excited to announce that TISA is celebrating reading AND raising money
for class field trips with a school-wide Read-A-Thon!
First graders are raising money for their end-of-the-year field trip in May! We are hoping
that every student will raise $30 at our Read-a-Thon so that we can achieve our
goal. Please help your child find sponsors (family, friends, businesses) to donate
money for every book she or he reads at the Read-a-Thon!
The Read-a-Thon will take place on Wednesday, March 6 th from 8:30am to
noon. It will be a pajama day! PJs, pillows, small blankets, stuffed animals and, of course, BOOKS are
welcome!
Students can either bring their own favorite books (any book will work from board books to chapter books) or use books in our class library to read or be read to for the morning. First graders will be especially grateful for parents, older siblings, other family members, or friends who are able to attend to read to them at these times: 8:30-10:00 and 10:30-12:00. Read-a-thon forms will be coming home this week. Please fill them out and bring them back by Monday, March 4 th. Donations of muffins and hot chocolate are much appreciated on the morning of the big read! Thank you so much for your participation and support!
Please see the "YAY for READ-A-THON" blog post or Miss Jutka for more information.
