YAY for Read-a-thon!

Annual TISA Read-a-thon
Wednesday, March 6, 2019, 8:30-Noon

Yay!!! We are having TISA's annual school-wide read-a-thon from 8:30 to noon. The funds raised by the first graders will be used to pay for their end-of-year field trip in May. Each class has a financial goal and a goal for the number of books to read for their trip. The financial goal for the first grade is to raise $600.00, which will pay for the bus transportation fee, entry fees, snacks, and the educational activities for the students and chaperoning parents. The goal for the number of books read by the class will be determined by the class. To celebrate meeting our reading goal we will watch a movie that afternoon.

Here is the information for the Read-a-thon:
  • Each student seeks out sponsors to pledge an amount of money for the books read during the read-a-thon. Each family will need to raise a minimum of $30 for our field trip.
  • March 4 (Monday): Read-a-thon forms (coming home with your child this week) are to be turned in.
  • March 6 (Wednesday) 8:30-noon: Day of the read-a-thon
  • March 28: Read-a-thon money is due. Money is turned in after the Read-a-thon. Checks are  made out to TISA.
  • Each first grade student needs a reading buddy. It can be either a parent, older sibling, family member, or friend who can come in, listen to, and read with him or her. Reading sessions will be 8:30-10:00 and 10:30-12:00
  • Donations of muffins, hot chocolate, and small prizes are much appreciated on the morning of the big read!
  • You are welcome to send in a family movie for us to enjoy that day.
  • Read-a-thon Day is “Pajama Day.” Both kids and adults are welcome to wear pajamas, bring a pillow, a blanket, and get cozy for a morning of fun reading. If you choose to bring a special stuffy, please label it (they have been found to be especially prone to "wander off" that day).
  • Favorite books can be brought from home and/or books from our class library can be read. Please consider labeling especially precious/special books with your child's name or leaving them at home.
  • We need each family to raise their fair share in pledges to meet the class' financial goal.
Attached is the Read-a-Thon Donation Sheet.
Please fill it out and bring it back by Monday, March 4.

As always, thank you for supporting TISA kiddos and promoting literacy!
